Hello world!

January 15, 2023

Happy New Year y’all!  It’s my favorite time of year! It’s officially LAMBING SEASON!! Our first lamb was born this morning!!  It’s a little ram lamb, and he is brown, white, gray, and black!  I already love him so much.  This year we have a group of ewes with a brown ram in hopes of producing a group of brown New Mexico Dahl sheep.  It’s my pet project and my sweet husband is all for it!

For those of you who are new, our sheep are a rare heritage breed that my husband has been bringing back from extension for about 40 years.  They are called New Mexico Dahl sheep and they came over with Coronado!  It’s kind of fun knowing that.

Anyway, I digress… back to our first lamb of the year.  Y’all I LIVE for lambing season!  I start checking daily in about December even though I know that they won’t be coming until January or later sometimes we get a surprise and I get SOOO excited!  So this morning we woke up to an adorable little ram (boy lamb for those of you who are like me and didn’t know that until my husband told me lol).  We named him Picasso since he has one white ear, and one brown one.  In my brain, it totally made sense because Picasso was missing an ear.  I know, probably doesn’t make any sense to you, but it totally works in my brain!!

I totally shouldn’t tell you this, but I went outside about 10 times today checking to see if we had anymore lambs… of course we didn’t… sigh… but there is a storm coming in and that usually means LAMBS!!!!  So hopefully tomorrow we’ll have some more.

I’m hoping to post every week or so about life on the ranch.  Hopefully you’ll find it fun and you’ll learn a little bit.  Until next time!! Enjoy some totally cute pictures of me and our lammie pooh and his mamma!!
